OPTA regulates compliance with the relevant legislation and regulations on the markets for electronic communications and post. Based on these regulations, OPTA is authorised to make decisions and to enforce compliance by means of sanctions. An OPTA decision is binding by law. For example, OPTA can make binding decisions when asked to settle a dispute between providers regarding interconnection and access obligations. OPTA decisions may also comprise issuing sanctions. Examples of sanctions are orders under threat of fine or penalties. OPTA is authorised to issue sanctions if providers do not satisfy their legal obligations.
